Tracy Alert: Keeping Tracy Informed During Emergencies

by | Jun 23, 2022 | Department News, News Releases

In conjunction with the California Office of Emergency Services 9-1-1 branch the Tracy Police Department is excited to announce that Tracy Alert is now available to all residents. Tracy Alert is a free service that allows individuals to sign up for notifications sent from state and local authorities. Tracy Alert keeps residents and travelers informed on potentially hazardous situations involving weather, traffic, and other emergencies.

“Tracy Alert enables authorities to notify the community in real time,” said Michele Clubb, Public Safety Dispatch Supervisor. “This service allows for critical communication with the public and provides individuals with the information needed to stay safe or take precautions during hazardous or emergency situations.”

Tracy Alert enables residents and travelers to City of Tracy to sign up for free at Tracy Alert to receive timely and actionable emergency alerts via email, text or voice message. They can also identify when and how they are alerted and communicated with before, during, and after emergencies.

City of Tracy residents and travelers can also download the Smart911 app to sign up for Tracy Alert to receive key information needed in an emergency. The Smart911 app provides enhanced functionality by sending targeted alerts based on the user’s location. Due to the limited information that can be sent via text, Smart911 app users will be able to register an email address to receive additional information. Smart911 app users will receive the highest priority National Weather Service alerts, including tornado warnings, flash flood warnings, and severe thunderstorm warnings based on their real-time location. The Smart911 app can be downloaded from the Apple Store or Google Play Store, or by texting “Smart911” to 67283.

“Community members will receive notifications that will improve safety in our city and help inform residents of potentially lifesaving actions they may need to take in an emergency,” said Clubb. “The information sent out by Tracy Police Department through emergency notifications allows both residents and first responders to be better informed in an emergency situation.”
