Tracy PD Arrests Murder Suspect Wanted by Atwater PD After Car Chase and Assault on an Officer

by | Feb 7, 2024 | Department News, News Releases

On Friday, February 2, 2024, at around 10:21 p.m., Tracy Police Officers attempted to make a traffic stop on a silver BMW in the area of 11th Street and MacArthur Drive for driving at an excessive speed and suspected Driving Under the Influence (DUI).  Instead of stopping, the vehicle rammed an occupied marked Tracy PD patrol car and led officers on a pursuit that led to the area of Schulte Road and Chrisman Road.

The suspect lost control of his vehicle, drove off-road, and became stuck in an orchard.  The driver, and solo occupant, of the vehicle, fled on foot through the orchard.  Officers gave chase and were able to subdue him through the use of a Taser.  The suspect, later identified as Fernando David Perez (33 years old from Tracy), was found to have a homicide warrant out of the Atwater Police Department.  Additionally, Perez had a loaded firearm in his vehicle and was driving under the influence of alcohol.

Once Perez was treated for minor injuries at an area hospital, he was booked into the San Joaquin County Jail for the Atwater PD homicide warrant, assault with a deadly weapon on a peace officer, evading a peace officer, driving under the influence of alcohol and several firearms-related offenses.

No officers were injured during the incident.
