The Field Patrol Unit is the largest unit of the Tracy Police Department. The dedicated men and women who serve as Patrol Officers respond to calls for police service 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
There are 54 sworn officers and six professional staff members assigned to the unit. The officers and members are divided into six teams that complete general patrol assignments and are supervised by a sergeant. A seventh team, known as the Special Enforcement Team, focuses on solutions to crime trends.
Beyond responding to calls for police service and conducting crime prevention efforts, Field Patrol Unit officers perform research and implement problem-solving strategies dealing with various concerns.
Many calls for police service are quality-of-life issues that are not necessarily violations of the law; however, they often lead to criminal conduct. With this in mind, the Field Patrol Unit focuses its discretionary proactive time on addressing these community concerns.
