Beginning on Friday, January 12, 2024, the Bureau of Investigations has worked tirelessly on solving the murder of David Valdez. The Tracy Police Department strives to bring justice on behalf of victim’s, their families, and the community.
On Friday, January 19, 2024, around 10:00 am, the Tracy Police Department’s Crisis Response Unit (SWAT, Crisis Negotiations, Tactical Medics, and Tactical Dispatch), Special Investigations Unit (SIU), Special Enforcement Team (SET), and Patrol Officers served a search and arrest warrant at a residence in the 1600 block of Court Drive in Tracy. Victor Vera (27 years old of Tracy) was arrested in connection to the murder of David Valdez that occurred on January 12, 2024, on Sugar Road. The incident is believed to be an isolated incident, and there is no risk to the community at large.
Vera was charged with PC 187(A) – Murder and booked into the San Joaquin County Jail.

ORIGNIAL RELEASE: On Friday, January 12, 2024, around 6:30 pm the Tracy Police Department responded to a report of a vehicle collision on Sugar Rd. between Tracy Blvd and Holly Dr. Upon their arrival, patrol officers located a male inside a vehicle that had been shot several times. The shooting victim was transported to a local hospital where he later died from his wounds.
Detectives from the Tracy PD General Investigations Unit responded to the scene and took over the investigation. The victim was identified as David Cantero Valdez (17 years old of Tracy, CA). The investigation is ongoing and anyone with any information about this incident is encouraged to contact the Tracy Police Department.
