Tracy Police Arrest Suspect Following Investigation into Felony Offenses Involving Child Sexual Abuse Material, Animal Cruelty, and Firearms Violations

After following up on a tip from a community member, Detectives assigned to the Tracy Police Department’s General Investigations Unit (GIU) arrested Larry Gustafson, a 65-year-old Tracy resident, on September 10, 2025, in connection with multiple felony offenses, including possession of child sexual abuse material, animal cruelty, sexual contact with an animal, and unlawful possession of an assault weapon. Gustafson was taken into custody without incident following the service of several search warrants for electronic devices, which contained over 1,000 videos of child sexual abuse material.

Through the investigation, Detectives uncovered evidence of egregious acts involving both the exploitation of minors and animals, including the mistreatment of animals. In addition, detectives located and secured an assault weapon in violation of California state firearms laws.

Gustafson was booked on the following charges:

– 311.11(c)(1) PC – Possession of child sexual abuse material involving a prepubescent minor or a minor under 12 years of age

– 597(a) PC – Willful cruelty to an animal

– 286.5(a) PC – Sexual contact with an animal

– 30605(a) PC – Unlawful possession of an assault weapon
