Tracy PD Responds to Report of Gardeners Shot with a BB Gun On Dominique Drive

by | Nov 19, 2024 | Hate Crimes, News Releases

On Monday, November 18, 2024, around 1:00 p.m., Tracy Police Patrol Officers responded to a report of two gardeners who had been shot with a BB gun in the 1100 block of Dominique Drive. When Officers arrived, they were able to locate the two male victims who had sustained minor injuries that did not require medical attention.

From statements gathered from the victims, the responding officer’s initial investigation revealed that the incident was motivated by the victims’ race.

Based on the information provided, Officers were led to a residence across the street where the individual with the alleged BB gun had retreated. As Officers approached the residence, they contacted Leonardo Cabral (38 years old from Tracy), who was determined to be responsible for the shooting and fled into the residence.

While Officers attempted to contact Cabral, Dispatch found that Cabral had a felony warrant for an assault with a deadly weapon on a police officer at a neighboring law enforcement agency.

As Cabral continued to refuse to exit the residence, the Crisis Response Unit (SWAT, Crisis Negotiations Team, Tactical Medics, and Tactical Dispatch) responded to assist, leading to members of the Crisis Negotiations Team being able to safely talk Cabral out of the residence.

As Cabral exited the residence, he was arrested without further incident for PC 245(a)(1) – assault with a deadly weapon other than a firearm and PC 422.6 – violate civil rights by force or threat of force and booked into San Joaquin County Jail.
