Tracy PD Officers Arrest Suspected Armed Person In The 1800 Block Of West Eleventh Street

by | Jan 31, 2024 | Department News, News Releases

On Wednesday, January 31, 2024, around 7:19 am the Tracy Police Department responded to a report of a male breaking into vehicles in the 1800 block of West 11th St.  Upon arrival of our uniformed officers, they found the suspect (Michael Lee Markussen; 35 years old from San Francisco, CA) nearby and attempted to detain him.  Markussen claimed he was armed with a weapon and told the officers to shoot him.

Officers attempted to de-escalate the situation, but the male refused to comply with directions.  Markussen was ultimately struck by several less lethal beanbag shotgun rounds and a less lethal 40mm foam baton round as he tried to flee on foot. The less lethal application for force proved to be ineffective as Markussen refused to comply with orders from officers. Officers changed tactics to a physical takedown of Markussen and placed him under arrest without further incident. Markussen was not in possession of a weapon that officers could see at the time of arrest. Officers did not discharge their firearms during this incident.

Markussen was treated at a local hospital for minor injuries sustained during the arrest and later booked into the San Joaquin County Jail for 664/459 PC (attempted burglary),148 PC (obstruct/resist/delay a peace officer) and two warrants out of Humboldt County.
