Suspect in Custody for Shooting Near 6th & Central

by | Jan 20, 2023 | News Releases

On January 19, 2023, at about 1:07 pm, the Tracy Police Department (TPD) Communications Center began receiving multiple 911 calls of shots fired in the area of 6th Street and Central Avenue. Based on the description provided by callers, the suspect was reported to have fled the scene on foot. During his flight, additional callers reported the suspect firing rounds as he traveled north.

Out of an abundance of caution, we requested Tracy High School place their campus on lockdown, as the suspect was reported to be traveling eastbound on 12th Street from Central Avenue.

At 1:17 pm, Officers from the Tracy Police Department Special Enforcement Team (SET) and General Investigations Bureau (GIU) were able to locate the suspect, Arturo Muniz Razo (23 years old of Tracy) near the intersection of 12th and F Street. After a brief struggle, the Razo was taken into custody without further incident. The firearm used in the incident has been recovered.

Razo was arrested and booked into San Joaquin County Jail for PC 664/187(A) Attempted Murder and PC 148(A)(1) resisting arrest.

Preliminary information obtained by GIU detectives lead them to believe that the victim and suspect were familiar with one another.

At this time, there are no reports of any victims being injured due to gunfire.

The investigation is ongoing; anyone with information is encouraged to contact Detective Kenneth Steele at Kenneth.Steele@TracyPD.com or at 209-831-6660 or Detective Brian Azevedo at Brian.Azevedo@TracyPD.com or at 209-831-6534.
