Tracy Police Officers Respond to Fatal Traffic Collision Near West Grant Line Road and Buthmann Avenue

On June 16, 2026, at about 5:21 AM, the Tracy Police Department (TPD) Communication Center received calls reporting a collision involving a vehicle striking a pedestrian on West Grant Line Road near Buthmann Avenue. When Officers arrived, they located a 66-year-old male who had suffered major injuries consistent with being hit by a vehicle.  

The pedestrian was transported to an area hospital, where he tragically passed away as a result of his injuries. The identity of the deceased will not be released at this time. 

The Traffic Safety Unit (TSU) was notified and responded to the scene to assume the collision investigation. The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and has been cooperative with investigators.

This tragic incident serves as a reminder for all road users to look out for one another. Drivers should remain especially alert for pedestrians during the early morning hours around sunrise, when changing light conditions and sun glare can make visibility more challenging. Pedestrians can also help improve their visibility by wearing bright or reflective clothing when possible and exercising caution when crossing roadways. By staying attentive and aware, we can all help make our roads safer for everyone.
